Chapter 754 - 725: Love Across Parallel Worlds [047]
Simon Forrester was momentarily stunned as he was pushed away. Seeing the fear in Sienna Thorne’s eyes, he had a vague idea of who was knocking on the window. With mixed emotions, he turned around. The moment the car door was opened, he put on a smile and respectfully bowed after getting out of the car, "Hello, Uncle."
Quentin Thorne, with a cold expression, didn’t look at him or greet him. He turned to Sienna in the passenger seat and sternly said, "Come home with me!"
"Oh."
Sienna got out of the car with a mournful look, forgetting her luggage, and followed Quentin with her head down. Simon quickly grabbed her luggage bag and followed them into the garden.
When the three entered the house, Melinda Linton came out with some fruit. Seeing her daughter and Simon, she shook her head with a sigh, a look of disappointment in her eyes.
It seemed she already knew.
Simon went forward to hold Sienna’s hand. She tried to pull away, but he held on tightly.
The two of them sat down on the sofa with Quentin. Quentin didn’t even bother making tea. The moment he sat down, he saw their hands held together and grew angry. With a stern face, he asked, "Where have you been these past two days?"
Sienna kept her head down, unable to speak.
Simon said, "We went to South Bay to check out some land for Annie’s friend."
Quentin got furious, turning to Sienna, loudly questioning, "Annie, have you learned to lie to your parents now? Huh? Didn’t you say you were going with your girlfriends?"
Simon explained, "Maeve was busy, out of town for a performance. I’m in construction, so I was entrusted to go with Annie to help look around."
Seeing her husband too angry to speak, Melinda, who hadn’t said anything so far, sighed, "Annie, you’re a young lady who will get married in the future. How could you spend the night out with a man? You’ve really disappointed your parents!"
Sienna burst into tears, her tears falling onto her knees like beads on a broken string.
Growing up, she feared disappointing her parents the most.
Melinda, having come from a farming background, was often looked down upon by the family’s other relatives. They believed Melinda only married Quentin because of an unplanned pregnancy. Over the years, Melinda had suffered much from these relatives’ disdain. Ever since Sienna was little, she was constantly reminded by her mother that a girl must be self-respecting and shouldn’t easily get involved with men, or she’d be looked down upon.
Therefore, all her life, Sienna told herself she must do well, stand up for her mother, and prove to everyone that a farmer’s child is no less than anyone else. Yet now, the person who disappointed her mother the most was herself.
Seeing her daughter cry, Melinda, perhaps reminded of the past, also teared up, wiping them with a handkerchief.
Simon, unaware of the details, was quite surprised. Seeing Sienna cry made him feel even more compassionate: "Uncle, Aunt, please don’t worry. We didn’t do anything inappropriate."
Quentin, who had never look at him directly, finally did: "If you had any concern for Annie, if you sincerely liked her, if you had any sense of responsibility, you wouldn’t have taken her out overnight!"
Simon gritted his teeth, "I want to marry Annie. I will be responsible for her! I love her."
The hand he was holding trembled slightly.
He lowered his gaze towards Sienna, who still had her head down, and gently put an arm around her shoulders, softly comforting, "Don’t cry. You didn’t do anything wrong."
Quentin, enraged, said to Melinda, "Take Annie upstairs!"
Melinda then got up and pulled her daughter away.
Simon watched helplessly as Sienna, still crying, was taken upstairs. Once her figure disappeared around the stairway corner, Quentin paused for a moment and then spoke without reservation.
"I’ll be honest with you; we’ve already found a suitable marriage match for Annie. We won’t let Annie marry you, so give up. Goodbye, see yourself out!" After finishing, Quentin stood up and moved toward the door, ready to show him out.
Simon remained seated, still trying to make his case: "I can give Annie a good life. I hope you and Aunt can approve of our relationship."
"We will never agree! Please leave!"
This time, Simon stood up, looking back at the stairs for several seconds before walking to the door. As he passed Quentin, he bowed respectfully, "I’m sorry for bothering you so late. I hope you can give me a chance. I am serious about Annie, and I’m confident I can make her happy for a lifetime."
"Marriage isn’t as simple as you think it is, nor is it enough that you’re happy! While considering yourselves, you should also think about your parents’ feelings."
"My family really likes Annie."
Hearing that his daughter went to the man’s house without telling her parents, Quentin was infuriated and had no patience for pleasantries, bluntly stating, "You don’t meet our requirements for a future son-in-law, so forget it!"
Simon calmly asked, "What are your requirements for a future son-in-law, Uncle and Aunt?"
"We want a son-in-law who will live with us and is a public servant in the judicial system. Can you do that? Are you willing to marry into our family? Will the children you have in the future take the Thorne surname? If you’re willing, then I might consider it."
Simon smiled slightly and bowed again, "I’ll do my best. It’s very late now. Uncle, please rest early. I’ll visit again another time."
...
When Quentin went upstairs, Melinda was still crying in her daughter’s room.
Sienna sat on the bed, looking down at her phone.
Quentin came in and said, "Get some rest first. We can talk tomorrow," then signaled Melinda to follow him out.
Once back in their room, Melinda leaned into her husband’s arms, crying, "What are we going to do now?"
Quentin gently patted his wife’s back and asked, "What did Annie say?"
"She said she didn’t do anything to disappoint us."
Quentin sighed, "Then let’s trust the child. As long as they break up, everything will be fine. I’ll contact Sutton again and encourage his son to be more active!"
Speaking of Seth Sutton, Melinda grew upset, wiping away her tears as she sat at the foot of the bed, "If the boy liked Annie, how could he not contact her after one meeting? If he doesn’t like Annie, that’s fine. You should look for someone else for Annie."
Quentin remained silent because Melinda’s words had some truth.
He was considering how to discuss this with Seth’s father when Melinda sighed again, "Actually, I think the child from the Forrester family isn’t bad. He’s quite outstanding, and he seems to treat Annie well. Since Annie is already involved with him.... maybe just..."
"No way! That’s impossible! The Forrester Family is all businesspeople; they can’t offer Annie any substantial help for her future! Impossible!"
Seeing her husband getting agitated, Melinda dared not say more, and gently patted Quentin’s back, "Alright, alright, don’t get too upset..."
Meanwhile, in a terrible mood, Sienna finally received a video call invitation from Simon.
