Chapter 1539: She Hid Away
Chapter 1539: She Hid Away
When Ethan Barnes rushed over, he saw Celeste Linden rolling down the slope. He immediately shouted angrily, "You little wench, don’t run!"
As Celeste Linden rolled down, she kept her hands protectively over her lower abdomen. Seeing them catching up, she quickly got up, her slender figure agilely disappearing into the forest, swallowed by the vast darkness.
Ethan Barnes kicked a rock by his foot, "What are you all standing around for? Hurry down and catch her, she must be brought back."
"Yes."
The two henchmen in black lay on the ground, one wounded in the abdomen and the other in the head, bleeding profusely, both howling in pain. Ethan Barnes was furious, "Damn it, you are such a bunch of idiots! You can’t even keep an eye on a pregnant woman!"
The henchman protested, feeling wronged, "Boss, this little wench is incredibly vicious. She stabbed us with a knife without blinking; she’s exceptionally agile. We were momentarily careless."
"Enough!" Ethan Barnes was also filled with regret. He hadn’t anticipated that such a small and seemingly harmless body of Celeste Linden could harbor such strength, allowing her to escape right under the eyes of so many of them.
He must catch her again.
...
Celeste Linden had escaped, she kept running, surrounded by branches and thorns cutting into her face and hands, leaving several small bleeding wounds, burning painfully.
But she didn’t stop, because she knew those men in black would surely be searching for her; she couldn’t stop and couldn’t get caught.
Ahead was endless night, the wilderness eerie and terrifying, she was scared too, her heart pounding wildly.
But inside her, there was a stronger resolve, a determination to survive. She knew Ethan Barnes must be out to rescue Carlotta. Even if the whole world abandoned her, she wouldn’t abandon herself, especially now that she wasn’t fighting alone, there was already a little life inside her.
At this moment, warmth and strength poured from within Celeste Linden, regardless of what kind of person the father was, she was beginning to be grateful to the heavens for granting her this life.
She didn’t know how long she had been running, but Celeste Linden’s pace slowly slackened; she was exhausted, and her stomach felt a bit uncomfortable.
Then noises came from the surroundings, those men in black were chasing, "Quickly search, check every place carefully. A pregnant woman can’t run far; she must be nearby. Catch her alive."
"Yes, boss."
They were closing in.
Celeste Linden knew if she got caught again, the consequences would be unimaginable. What should she do now?
First, she had to hide.
Celeste Linden looked around swiftly and soon spotted a secluded cave blocked by branches, not easily found. Without further hesitation, she pushed aside the branches and hid inside the cave.
Clearly exhausted, Celeste Linden sat in a corner, curled up, hugging herself.
The sounds of the search outside grew closer, it seemed like they had reached nearby, "Did you find her over there?"
"No, boss."
"Damn it, where did that little wench hide? We found her tracks on the road just now, she must be nearby; keep looking."
Celeste Linden held her breath, her heart stretched taut as a string. She didn’t know if she would see the sun tomorrow.
At this moment, footsteps reached outside the cave. Someone was coming.
