Chapter 54 Tough Battle
Chapter 54 Tough Battle
The Foundation's mercenaries had no intention of capturing them alive; they simply held them down and fired a burst of bullets, drenching them with water until they died.
Lin Chen hid behind the filing shelf and pressed the earpiece:
"Section Chief, what do you mean?"
"Zhanyi, stay hidden. Keep that 'Whale's Roar' shell firing and wait for the right opportunity," Jiang Zhengge instructed. "Lin Chen, everyone is an enemy now, understand? We're counterattacking."
Everyone is an enemy.
Lin Chen understood what Section Chief Jiang meant.
He has killed demigods and anomalous entities, but he has never killed a living person.
Even the two executioners from the media enforcement department were only knocked unconscious with non-lethal bullets.
Section Chief Jiang was probably worried that Lin Chen would have psychological burdens and be unable to bring himself to harm humans.
But Section Chief Jiang was wrong.
"call..."
Lin Chen let out a soft breath, squatted down, and checked the shotgun magazine.
He pulled a smoke grenade from inside his coat and pulled the tab:
"Cover me."
"Zzzzzzzzz—"
As smoke billowed, the Foundation's mercenaries lost sight of their target.
Amidst the smoke, they carried their guns and advanced towards the location where the group had last appeared.
Suddenly, the smoke was torn apart by bullets—
"Bang!"
A barrage of 23mm buckshot bullets pierced a mercenary's chest. Before losing consciousness, he saw Lin Chen holding a shotgun through the smoke and the hole created by the bullets.
"..."
This moment was stretched out, and Lin Chen saw fear in those empty eyes. He felt his fingertips twitch slightly.
The next second, he took two steps back and re-entered the "Mirage City" into view.
"Over there!"
"Da da da da da!"
The mercenaries opened fire on the spot where Lin Chen had disappeared, sending trails of smoke through the air, but Lin Chen had already vanished.
A few seconds later, two more shotgun shells were fired from the smoke.
"Bang! Bang!"
Two mercenaries fell to the ground, then a third—
"Bang!"
Fourth place, fifth place—
"Bang! Bang!"
Within a mere ten seconds, all the Foundation mercenaries were wiped out.
They died without ever understanding how the enemy had managed to get through the smoke and kill them.
But for Lin Chen, this was just a clever little trick:
As Zhanyi had mentioned before, she wanted to use her "prophecy" ability to predict the enemy's location in the smoke before firing.
Lin Chen used the exact same principle: he used the "Mirage City" to scout out the enemy's position a second earlier, and then fired in the direction they were moving.
This kind of prediction is naturally not as reliable as Zhan Yi's prophecy, but Lin Chen was using a shotgun, and the dispersion of the bullets made this tiny error almost negligible.
"Hehe...funny..."
Captain England stared at the smoke screen, and as the firelight flickered, shadows within the smoke fell one after another.
"You've got some skills..." he said, hands on his hips.
"Stop posing! They're going to kill us!" the director growled. "Go and take them down!"
"Don't rush me. How can my appearance be considered important if they don't die?" Captain England patted the director on the shoulder. "You got all the footage of them falling to the ground, right?"
"Got it, hurry up and get on board, bro..."
"it is good."
The English captain flicked his wrist, his pupils turning a deep blue.
Almost simultaneously, Lin Chen emerged from the smoke, his black trench coat swaying slightly.
The moment he saw the English captain, he immediately raised his gun and fired.
"boom!"
The British captain raised his shield to block Lin Chen's bullet, then immediately reached out his hand—
"Click click click..."
Lin Chen felt a strong gravitational pull on his hand, and his gun was forced to point towards the ground.
This guy's ability...manipulating metal?
"This gun's quality's pretty good, anti-gamma level?" Captain England squinted. "Why don't you try it yourself?"
The next second, a bullet struck the demigod's head—
"clang!"
A metallic cracking sound rang out, and the English captain staggered, nearly falling to the ground.
He turned his head and saw Jiang Zhengge holding a revolver, his eyes gleaming with a deep blue light—
"boom!!"
The wind pressure dropped instantly from above, causing the English captain to bend slightly.
"Damn it!" Captain England cursed. "What kind of bullets are these? They stink!"
"Lucy," Jiang Zhengge ordered.
"boom------"
Flames attacked from the other side of the field, and the English captain raised his shield to block the flames.
"Pah, pah," he laughed, "Not impressed..."
The next second, he flicked his wrist, and the shield flew towards Lucy—
"call--"
Lucy dodged the shield, which shattered the filing shelf behind her.
She raised the machine gun to fire, but Captain England flicked his hand, and the machine gun in her hand exploded, turning into countless pieces of metal.
Lucy was thrown into the air by the explosion and landed inside the collapsed file shelf, where she remained motionless.
"Bang!"
Jiang Zhengge fired again, and the 12.7x55mm armor-piercing round struck the British captain in the chest, tearing his uniform and splattering blood.
The demigod let out a low growl, manipulating the magnetic force to recall the shield, then threw it towards Jiang Zhengge—
"boom!"
Jiang Zhengge blocked the attack with his trench coat, and his energy vest roared as it released energy, offsetting most of the impact.
But this blow still knocked Jiang Zhengge to the ground. He had just gotten up when the English captain was already in front of him, raising his fist—
"call--"
A gust of wind blew by, propelling Jiang Zhengge to dodge the attack. The English captain's fist smashed a hole in the ground, and the violent impact knocked Jiang Zhengge over again.
Just as the English captain was about to give chase, he felt a sharp pain in his neck—
"Pfft!"
Blood gushed out, and the British captain turned his head with a ferocious expression, only to see Lin Chen standing behind him, holding a revolver shotgun.
That last shot was an armor-piercing shell.
With a flick of his wrist, the magnetic field caused Lin Chen's shotgun muzzle to deflect, and Lin Chen seized the opportunity to draw his pistol and fire another burst at his face.
"Clap clap clap!"
The bullet, now imbued with a "biological weapon" curse, struck Captain England's face and bounced off his skin.
"Fook! Your bullets smell awful too! Ugh..."
Captain England gagged and then charged madly toward Lin Chen.
He raised his fist and slammed it directly into Lin Chen's face—
"Bang!"
Captain England's pupils contracted slightly—Lin Chen caught his fist.
"what the..."
Then Lin Chen punched him in the face—
"Pfft!"
Two of Captain England's teeth were knocked out. Just as Lin Chen was about to throw another punch, Captain England's fist struck his chest at a speed that was imperceptible to the naked eye.
Lin Chen staggered back several steps, clutching his chest, and half-knelt on the ground.
He looked up and saw the English captain staring at him in disbelief at the two teeth on the ground.
"You...how did you..."
Lin Chen ignored him, took out a syringe, injected himself with a shot to sustain his fighting power, and grinned slightly.
"How interesting, you asked the exact same question as Optimus Prime..."
He was pleased to see a hint of fear on the English captain's face. The demigod took two steps back, and the shield flew back into his hand.
"So it was you..." he murmured to himself. "That old idiot J said you were bailed out by the Bureau of Investigation... I thought she was crazy... but you really are still alive..."
"Are you scared?" Lin Chen asked softly.
He understood that the most important thing when facing a demigod with great power was to break down his psychological defenses.
Once reason breaks down, it's not difficult for a demigod to handle.
