Chapter 319: Capturing a Mutated Zombie Alive
Chapter 319: Capturing a Mutated Zombie Alive
A Speed of 3000, while still no match for Lin Xinghai’s current speed, was already terrifyingly fast.
After all, an average Mecha’s Speed was only around 1000. If one encountered this Hunter leader, it would probably run circles around them.
Moreover, if it entered a berserk state, its Speed would reach a terrifying 6000, a level that not even Lin Xinghai could match.
Everything he was witnessing only strengthened Lin Xinghai’s resolve to kill it.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
A series of explosions erupted as the Micro Missiles caught up to the Hunters and detonated.
The other two Hunters sustained some injuries from the bombardment of ten Micro Missiles. One, in particular, had its leg damaged in the blast, its Speed plummeting to below 1000.
However, the Hunter leader, with its unparalleled speed and agile evasions, managed to charge through the series of explosions completely unscathed.
The sight secretly amazed Lin Xinghai. However, in dodging the explosions, the creature’s escape had slowed down slightly.
In that brief moment, Lin Xinghai closed the distance to 500 meters. The instant the creature entered his Perception range, he pulled the trigger of the Electromagnetic Railgun without hesitation.
BANG!
A blue light flashed by, but to Lin Xinghai’s surprise, the Hunter actually dodged it.
Lin Xinghai knew that sheer speed wasn’t enough to accomplish that. After all, no matter how fast the Hunter was, how could it possibly outpace a projectile from an Electromagnetic Railgun?
’It must have extremely strong Perception Power,’ he thought. ’It has to dodge the very instant I pull the trigger to have any chance of getting away.’
Of course, surprised as he was, Lin Xinghai didn’t pause for a second. With the first shot having missed, he continued to close in rapidly while firing two more Micro Missiles.
BOOM! BOOM!
As the two explosions rang out, Lin Xinghai seized the moment the creature was dodging to fire again.
This time, the Hunter leader could no longer evade and was killed on the spot.
The moment he confirmed the hit, Lin Xinghai turned and left. There were still two Hunters that hadn’t been dealt with!
Since they had all scattered, Lin Xinghai’s pursuit of the Hunter leader had also put more distance between him and the other two.
By now, one of the two Hunters was already over two kilometers away, and the other was four kilometers from him.
But Lin Xinghai didn’t go after the Hunter four kilometers away. That was the one with the injured leg; even if it got ten kilometers away, it wouldn’t be able to escape.
BANG!
Moving at top speed, he closed in to within 500 meters of the fourth Hunter and unhesitatingly pulled the trigger, killing it with the Electromagnetic Railgun.
By this point, the injured Hunter had already fled to a distance of over six kilometers.
But Lin Xinghai had completely relaxed.
A few dozen seconds later, he had caught up to it. He had originally intended to just stomp it to death and be done with it, but after a moment’s hesitation, he changed his mind. Ignoring its struggles, he grabbed the injured Hunter.
Lin Xinghai first broke its other leg, then snapped off its Sharp Claws one by one.
The Hunter’s greatest strength was its Speed, followed by its Attack Power. With both of these nullified, the creature was not much stronger than a common berserk Zombie.
Lin Xinghai controlled the Mecha to grip the creature in its hand and started heading back.
The reason he had spared its life was that he wanted to study the danger Perception range of these Mutated Zombies.
After dealing with all the Mutated Zombies, he contacted the Military Department and had the artillery squad clear a path for him with cannon fire. He couldn’t be bothered to make another detour of several dozen kilometers to enter the sub-base from the other side.
RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE!
Soon, the roar of cannon fire echoed as the Grenade Cannons blasted a path right through the dense Zombie tide.
Many of the Mercenary Corps had already been puzzled by the Military Department’s earlier bombardment.
Now, seeing them use artillery shells to blast a path through the Zombie tide, they were even more confused.
After all, not many Mercenaries had actually witnessed Lin Xinghai using artillery to clear a path and travel through a Zombie tide before.
But as the artillery barrage moved from the distance back toward the base, some sharp-eyed individuals gradually spotted the Speed Mecha following in the wake of the explosions. They were instantly stunned speechless.
For the vast majority of people, such a maneuver was simply unthinkable.
Of course, aside from their shock, some of the quicker-witted Mercenaries were also starting to put the pieces together.
They now understood why the Military Department had conducted that unusual bombing operation a few minutes ago. Connecting it to the return of the Speed Mecha from outside the walls, they realized it must have been a military operation.
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Lin Xinghai arrived at the base of the city wall. The Speed Mecha executed a high-level technique, a "reverse-thrust heavy leap," and vaulted directly over the wall, landing with ease.
This effortless-looking maneuver immediately drew cheers from the crowd of Mercenaries. Of course, it also made them even more curious about what exactly Lin Xinghai had been doing out there.
Just then, Zhang Yue’s voice came over the broadcast, announcing that Lin Xinghai had gone out alone and killed five Mutated Zombies.
The news instantly sent the Mercenaries into an uproar. A report like that would cause a sensation anywhere.
After their initial astonishment, the Mercenaries’ morale began to soar.
Previously, while Lin Xinghai and his group might have looked down on a horde of 500,000 Zombies, to the first and Second Level Mercenary Corps, it was still a terrifying prospect.
But now, hearing that even the five Mutated Zombies that had caused the Zombie tide were eliminated, their mindset naturally began to change.
As for Zhang Yue, after making the announcement, he led a group of military officers to greet the hero of the hour, Lin Xinghai.
They all knew that Lin Xinghai’s actions weren’t as simple as just eliminating five Hunters. More importantly, it was a powerful deterrent to any other Mutated Zombies.
A deterrent like this could potentially reduce the number of Zombie tide attacks on their sub-base.
Zhang Yue had already prepared a whole speech of congratulations and thanks in his mind. But as he drew closer and saw the still-moving Hunter, he froze on the spot.
Although he had noticed the Hunter in the Mecha’s hand when Lin Xinghai was returning, he had assumed it was just a corpse.
After all, Hunters were also Mutated Zombies, and their corpses could be exchanged for a good number of Points. It was perfectly normal for Lin Xinghai to bring one back with him.
But he never would have imagined that this wasn’t a corpse, but a living Hunter.
In other words, Lin Xinghai had captured a Mutated Zombie alive!
